How to Brush at Home When You Have Braces

There are some things you should know about dental care with braces and this video will help familiarize you with them.

The orthodontic care services center that puts in your braces should provide you with a hygiene kit that includes a toothbrush, floss and threaders, proxabrush, wax, and a list of foods you should and should not eat. The video is rather thorough in showing you how to care for your teeth.

To brush your teeth, you should move the toothbrush in a circular motion and turn it in 3 different positions: the top of the braces, the bottom of the braces, and the front of the braces. You should spend at least 30 seconds in each position.

Start at the top of the braces, press down on the toothbrush with just enough pressure to get the tips of the bristles under the wires, and brush from one side to the other several times. You will then need to brush underneath the braces with the same amount of pressure and motion. Finally, brush the top of the braces, repeating both of the above actions.

You will need to brush 2-3 minutes to make sure every surface is clean, and you should brush three times a day or after every meal. Now you know how to care for your teeth if you have braces.
